Helping Hands Society Report

In the year 2011, the Residents of Baldwin County continue to struggle to pay their monthly rent and utilities due to the lack of job opportunities and the exhaustion of their unemployment benefits. The number of homeless continues to rise due to the limited resources in our community. In the past few years, Helping Hands Society has received limited funds from FEMA that has helped to ease the burden. However, this year we will receive less FEMA funds due to the number of natural disasters that has struck our Nation in the past year and the economic situation.

Each fall, Helping Hands sponsors a fundraiser to enable us to continue assisting Baldwin County residents. This year the Annual Dinner/Silent and Live Auction will be held Saturday, October 15, 2011 at 6:30PM at the Milledgeville Country Club. In the past, Sacred Heart Parishioners have been extremely generous in both the donation of items for the Auction and in attending this fun event. This year we would like to expand the attendance to include your friends in the community. Invite them as your guests or purchase a table of eight and have them assist in the payment of admission. The cost will be the same as last year, $30 per person which includes a delicious dinner and salad buffet, iced tea or coffee, delicious homemade desserts and a complimentary glass of wine, beer or soft drink. There will also be an open bar and live music. Advance reservations are required by either purchasing a ticket from a Helping Hands Member after Masses in the next few weeks or submitting your reservation in September when you receive the notice in the bulletin. Also we are now accepting donations of items for the Auctions. You can either contact Sally Pratt at (478)414-7705 or drop it by the Church Office. Please include a description of the item and value. Keep in mind the Auction Committee can not guarantee the purchase price-it depends on bids received. God Bless all of you for your generosity in assisting the struggling residents of Baldwin County.
